Who we are
Connie Tao Li – Psychologist
Connie is a registered psychologist experienced in working with children, teenagers and adults with intellectual disabilities. She specialises in helping individuals and families with complex emotional, psychological and relationship issues. Connie is a strong advocate for creating sustainable and practical therapeutic outcomes in a person’s daily life. She helps her clients achieve this by modelling behaviours, and practicing skills in managing emotions and relationships. Between sessions, she designs activities and tasks for clients to ensure therapy is progressing towards their goals.
Connie provides a balance of care, empathy, experience and evidence based treatment. She is a Registered Psychologist and a member of the Australian Psychological Society. She has over 10 years of experience in counselling and clinical support. She has completed training in:
- Bachelor of Psychological Sciences,
- Bachelor of Social Sciences in Psychology (Honours),
- Graduate Diploma in Counselling,
- Specialised therapy training in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy,
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy,
- Circle Of Security Parenting, Positive Behaviour Support, and Restrictive Practices,
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and relationships counselling.
Connie also brings a depth of experience working with other agencies. These include Ageing, Disability and Home Care, Community Services, Education, Health and the Justice system. Her work is informed by a practical understanding of how the systems operate and meeting clients’ needs through complex systemic negotiation.
David Chan – Physiotherapist
David is a physiotherapist who worked in the past at Ageing, Disability and Home Care (ADHC). Over this time he has gained extensive experience working with children and adults living with intellectual and physical disabilities. He focuses on providing practical, effective and sustainable therapy that leads to independence and meaningful participation.
David is passionate about improving physical activity for people with intellectual disabilities. While at ADHC he developed and ran a ‘learn to ride’ bike riding clinic for children with disabilities. He has also utilised active video gaming for children and adults using the Xbox Kinect. David is also a strong supporter of the active support approach in group homes and has helped numerous group homes implement this with residents. David specialises in the prescription, setup and training of mobility equipment (standing frames, walking frames).
David has close relationships with the Schools for Specific Purposes (SSPs) in the St George and Sutherland area, as well as many of the local day programs.
Prior to working at ADHC, David spent 5 years working throughout Sutherland Hospital, solidifying his acute and rehabilitation physiotherapy skills.
